Mercedes-Benz India has posted record-breaking sales of 18,928 vehicles in FY25, with 4,775 sold in the first quarter of 2025. The luxury carmaker attributed the success to new product launches, network upgrades, and enhanced customer experiences.
Growth was seen across segments, notably in the core, top-end luxury, and battery electric vehicle (BEV) categories. The company has planned significant retail network expansion for the second quarter of 2025.
“Mercedes-Benz continues to be the most desirable luxury car brand in India, with nearly one in two German luxury cars sold in India, being a Mercedes-Benz. The desirability is driven by the unwavering commitment of our franchise partners in offering customers luxury of choice with new desirable products, differentiating service and a delightful retail experience.” said Santosh Iyer, managing director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India.
FY25 sales
The top-end luxury segment, featuring models like the S-Class, Mercedes-Maybach, EQS SUV, and AMG range, saw a 34 per cent growth in FY25. This growth was fueled by high demand for models like the S-Class, Mercedes-Maybach Night Series, G 580 with EQ Technology, EQS SUV, and AMG G 63.
The core segment, including the C-Class, E-Class LWB, GLC, and GLE, was the largest sales contributor for Mercedes-Benz India in both the FY25 and the first quarter of 2025.
The automaker’s BEV portfolio grew by 51 per cent in the last fiscal year, representing 7 per cent of total sales.
Q1 2025 sales
In the first quarter of 2025, over 25 per cent of Mercedes-Benz India’s sales came from the ‘top-end’ luxury segment. Waiting periods for these vehicles range from four months to a year, particularly for the AMG G 63.
The long-wheelbase E-Class, particularly the E 450 variant, saw strong demand in the first quarter of 2025 and remains the best-selling luxury car in India.
On the other hand, the entry luxury segment experienced a 28 per cent decline in the first quarter of 2025, owing to the segment’s focus on lower-priced, high-volume models.
BEV’s trend continued in the first quarter of 2025 similar to FY25, with robust demand for the India-made EQS SUV 580 and EQS SUV 450, raising BEV penetration to 8 per cent. Top-End Luxury BEVs like the EQS Maybach Night Series and G 580 SUV with EQ Technology are experiencing high demand, with waiting lists extending up to twelve months.
Go to Customer strategy for expansion
Mercedes-Benz India is implementing its “Go to Customer” strategy with a significant retail network expansion planned for the second quarter of 2025. This expansion involves adding 21 MAR20X outlets in both emerging and established markets, including New Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Chennai.
Its franchise partners are investing Rs. 450 crore over the next three years in this expansion, with new showrooms planned for emerging markets like Kanpur, Jammu, Varanasi, Udaipur, and Patna. A state-of-the-art facility was recently inaugurated in Agra.
