Chennai: A day after he was removed from the post of DMK deputy general secretary, Forest Minister K Ponmudi tendered an open apology on Saturday for using wrong words to convey an obscene idea in his speech at a hall meeting organized by the Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam.
Regretting that a seasoned politician like him with such long experience in public life had lost his mental balance, the Minister said that he was apologetic over the speech that hurt the sentiments of people and made many hang their heads in shame.
Chief Minister M K Stalin had stripped him of his party post on Friday after several persons, including DMK deputy general secretary Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, objected to the remarks he made at the meeting after a video clip of it went viral.
