When Kunal Kemmu met Sharmila Tagore for the first time
As their relationship grew stronger, there were various milestones that the couple saw, like meeting each other’s parents for the first time. The real-life princess, Soha Ali Khan, in an interview, shared that while she had directly shared the news with her mother, veteran actress Sharmila Tagore, she could not directly face her father, former Nawab of Pataudi Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi.
‘I would’ve never told my father directly because we didn’t have discussions about boys. I relied on my mother to tell him. I must’ve told her, and she is very liberal and trusting of my choices and not overtly concerned. She met Kunal on the sets of 99, and unfortunately, he was doing a scene in which he had to wear a pink bathrobe,’ said Soha while speaking to Hindustan Times in an old interview.
When Soha was describing Kunal’s first meeting with her mother, the actor corrected her on the details: “white bathrobe.” Though interrupted, Soha continued that Sharmila Tagore was instantly impressed by Kunal. She added that the ‘Kalyug’ actor “is very good with mothers.”

On the contrary, Kunal shared that when Soha Ali Khan met his parents, the meeting was a little uncomfortable for his father. “It was quite casual and informal, and I think they were slightly uncomfortable, especially my dad because it was the first time I was telling them that I was seeing a woman,” shared Kemmu.
In the same conversation, Kunal spoke about his equation with his in-laws. He said, “I’m very fond of Saif bhai as I call him now. Anybody can get along with him because he is a very entertaining person. I respect Amma (Sharmila Tagore) a lot. She’s a legendary actress, and initially, I was very nervous around her. Saba is a very real person.”
