‘Climate Warrior’ Leonardo DiCaprio has proven his tag – again. Recently, the 50-year-old actor was spotted on the coast of Formentera, Spain, collecting plastic waste from the waters, allegedly for an upcoming environmental documentary focused on Posidonia oceanica, along with children. However, the netizens rolled their eyes, asking whether he is collecting the trash he caused with his yachts.
After the pictures of DiCaprio went viral through a couple of popular Instagram accounts of him accompanying a group of children to collect the plastic waste for a documentary, the internet had its share of laughs. While some commented on his swimming skills despite being a regular yacht traveller, others taunted the actor on the irony of his carbon footprint being the size of ‘dinosaur.’
The comments on Leonardo’s gestures
Commenting on his habitual travels, one user stated, “Did he fly his jet or get there on his yacht?” Another asked, “Are they cleaning up the pollution that his yachts cause?” A third stated, “Bro’s yacht is waiting on the other end.” Another commented, “So he’s getting plastic from the ocean after he flies there with his private jet.”
However, a couple of others had a different reaction – Leonardo’s fans lauded him for the great initiative, encouraging others to step in. A user said, “Say what you want about him but I love his activism.” Another user defended the actor by stating, “God forbid a man does something good.”
The Palisades troll
The aforementioned incident is certainly not the first time Leonardo DiCaprio has been trolled for his ‘environmental choices.’ Previously, social media users trolled him for seeking refuge in Mexico by taking a private jet to escape during the Palisades fire. His ‘Climate Warrior’ tag was criticised and judged, calling him hypocritical during the crisis. A user wrote, “The eco warrior shows his true colors! Never liked him. What a schmuck.” “Leonardo CLIMATE CHANGE DiCaprio and Vittoria Ceretti escape LA fires on private jet despite being ‘climate warrior’,” another added. However, DiCaprio donated $1 million to the relief fund.
