LSU baseball took a significant step forward in its quest for a national championship.
The Tigers moved to 2-0 in the 2025 College World Series with a 9-5 victory over UCLA in the winner’s bracket on June 17. The game originally started on June 16 but was suspended until June 17 due to inclement weather at Charles Schwab Field Omaha in Omaha, Nebraska.
The Bruins will play No. 3 Arkansas in an elimination game scheduled for 7 p.m. on June 17. The winner will play LSU in the semifinals. The Tigers will need just one more win to advance to the championship series, while either the Bruins or Razorbacks would need two wins over LSU.
LSU held a 5-3 lead heading into play on June 17 and turned to freshman right-hander Casan Evans to give the team length. Evans fired 4 1/3 innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits. Chase Shores closed out the game for the final four outs to pick up the save.
Jared Jones hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning before the delay. He added an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning as an insurance run and finished the game 4-for-4. Jake Brown had two RBIs for LSU, while Ethan Frey scored four times.

LSU picks up a 9-5 win over UCLA in the winner’s bracket of the CWS on Tuesday. The game was delayed by rain and suspended on Monday night, but resumed on Tuesday. The Tigers built on a 5-3 lead on Monday to hold on for the win.
The Bruins will play Arkansas in an elimination game tonight, while LSU will await the winner of that game in the semifinals on Wednesday.
Easton Hawk leaves a fastball down the middle and Jaret Jones delivers an RBI single to make it 9-5 in the bottom of the eighth inning. Jones had a three-run home run yesterday in the first inning of this game.
Luis Hernandez is hit by a pitch. The bases are loaded with two outs for Michael Braswell III.
August Souza opens the bottom of the eighth inning for UCLA, but is replaced after recording an out and giving up a walk. Bruins’ closer Easton Hawk enters to face Steven Milam with one out.
Phoenix Call swings at the first pitch he sees from Chase Shores and grounds into a fielder’s choice to shortstop to end the threat. The Bruins strand the bases loaded with a chance to tie or take the lead.
LSU coach Jay Johnson is out for another pitching change. He’ll call on Chase Shores to take over for Cooper Williams on the mound. Williams walked Cashel Dugger to load the bases with two outs.
Shores will face right-handed hitter Phoenix Call. The top of the Bruins’ order is due up after Call.
Blake Balsz beats the shift and then beats out an infield single to score the second run of the inning for the Bruins. LSU’s lead is 8-5. UCLA still has two runners on with two outs, meaning Cashel Dugger represents the tying run at the plate.
With the bases loaded, Payton Brennan grounds into a fielder’s choice for the second out of the inning, but the play scores Mulivai Levu to make it 8-4 LSU in the eighth inning.
The Bruins still have runners on the corners and two outs.
With one out and runners on first and second, LSU coach Jay Johnson is calling on lefty reliever Cooper Williams to come on for Case Evans. AJ Salgado is the first of four straight lefties coming up for the Bruins.

Jake Brown took an 0-1 changeup to right field for another RBI single and it’s 7-3 LSU in the bottom of the fourth inning. Four straight hitters have reached with two outs.
Steven Milam drives in Derek Curiel for an RBI single to make it 6-3 LSU in the bottom of the fourth inning. Curiel reached on a two-out single to get the rally started for the Tigers.
Wylan Moss is on the mound for UCLA following the delay. Moss has a 2-1 record, two saves and a 2.62 ERA this season.

LSU-UCLA are scheduled to resume play at 11:03 a.m. (10:03 a.m. local time) Tuesday morning for the winner’s bracket game of the CWS. Inclement weather in Omaha caused a delay for last night’s game, which was eventually rescheduled for June 17.
While the forecast looks good for the Tigers-Bruins game to finish up, more weather could be on the way, impacting later games. According to the Weather Channel, there is a “marginal risk of severe weather.”

About three hours after the LSU-UCLA game entered a weather delay, the matchup has officially been pushed back a day, with rain and thunderstorms continuing throughout the Omaha area.
The NCAA announced that the game will resume at 11 a.m. ET on Tuesday, June 17. It isn’t scheduled to impact the start time of the other two CWS games, with Oregon State-Louisville still set for a 2 p.m. ET first pitch and Arkansas against the loser of the LSU-UCLA game beginning at 7 p.m. ET.

After Gage Wood’s no-hit masterpiece for Arkansas against Murray State, we’ve got some offense in Omaha. LSU takes a 4-3 lead into the second inning, making it the highest-scoring first inning of the 2025 NCAA tournament.
It turns out that Jake Brown’s RBI single was only the start of an offensive onslaught for LSU.
During the following at-bat, and with runners still on first and third, Jared Jones hits a shot to right field that just barely clears the wall, with AJ Salgado just missing out on what would have been a run-saving grab.
With Jones’ dinger, LSU takes a 4-3 lead.
Staring at an early 3-run deficit, LSU’s lineup is getting to work. With runners on first and third with one out, Jake Brown cashes in, slipping a single into right center field to cut UCLA’s lead to 3-1.
The Bruins couldn’t have asked for a better start.
With runners on first and second, Roman Martin rips a double down the left-field line, bringing home a run. In the next at-bat, AJ Salgado gets an infield single to bring home another run. Immediately after that, a soft grounder down the first-base line from Payton Brennan brings Martin home from third to stretch the lead to 3-0 heading into the bottom of the first inning.

The Tigers will be turning to pitcher Anthony Eyanson as they aim to take another step closer to a national championship. Eyanson, a junior right-hander, is 11-2 this season with a 2.74 ERA, 142 strikeouts and just 35 walks.
UCLA will hand the ball to sophomore right-hander Landon Stump, who is 6-1 this season with a 4.54 ERA, 62 strikeouts and 37 walks.
