It’s hardly groundbreaking news that more Xbox first-party titles are making their way to PlayStation 5, but it’s always interesting to get confirmation of upcoming ports for the platform.
Just two months ago, one of Xbox’s most iconic franchises was finally confirmed to arrive on PlayStation for the first time with the reveal of Gears of War: Reloadeda new remaster of the original title built in Unreal Engine 5, set to launch on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PS5 in August 2025. Given this, it’s no longer a stretch to imagine that the franchise’s next major installment, Gears of War: E-Day, will also debut on Sony’s console.
Thanks to some recent discoveries we’ve made, we can confirm that this is indeed the case. Furthermore, another significant Xbox launch is also scheduled to join it eventually.
Gears of War: E-Day and Another Xbox Franchise Are Getting PS5 Ports
This information comes from the resume of a Game Designer currently working on the title, where PS5 is listed as one of the target platforms for the game. This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about the possibility of Gears of War: E-Day coming to PS5. Back in 2024, job listings from The Coalition for a Senior Online Client Engineer for the title sought candidates with experience on platforms like PlayStation Network. This mention in the resume, however, provides even more tangible proof.
While it’s not specified if PS5 will be a launch platform, the most logical assumption would be that it will be a port released after its initial Xbox launch. Still, with Xbox’s recent shifts in its multiplatform strategy, nothing is certain, and a simultaneous release or a closer PS5 launch could still be on the cards.
Now, for the next game we’ve discovered is joining the list of ports being prepared for PS5, we’re talking about another franchise that has yet to debut on PlayStation: the upcoming State of Decay 3. This is confirmed by the resume of a developer working with Undead Labs, the studio behind the State of Decay series, which also lists PS5 as a target platform for the game. This finding makes us wonder if the first two games might also see a PlayStation re-release someday, but what’s certain is that a port for the third installment is already being prepared.
Unfortunately, no further details are available regarding when Gears of War: E-Day and State of Decay 3 might debut on PlayStation. We’ll have to wait for more official announcements to know, as while State of Decay 3 was originally claimed to release in 2025, it’s now rumored to have been delayed to 2026, the same year Gears of War: E-Day is also anticipated. This rumor now seems a stronger possibility due to a recent report from Ethan Gach at Kotakuindicating that Undead Labs experienced layoffs to an unknown extent, following a notable wave of layoffs and cancellations within Xbox.
On a related note, The Game Business recently reported that Xbox is expected to make announcements in the coming weeks regarding ports headed for both Nintendo Switch 2 and PS5. Although these will most likely be ports of already-launched titles that have been anticipated for some time, such as Starfield or even Halo: The Master Chief Collection, which at this point wouldn’t surprise anyone as much as it might have years ago.
We can expect announcements of this type at Gamescom 2025, which will take place next month, from August 20 to 24, and whose previous edition notably confirmed the arrival of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle on PS5.
