What to expect from two upcoming 300 400cc bike launches in August

With the 300-400cc segment witnessing strong growth and more manufacturers looking to tap into this aspirational space, it’s only fitting that August brings both an update to an existing bike and the introduction of a new motorcycle. The updated model in question is the Yezdi Roadster, while the new offering is the Triumph Thruxton 400.

What do we know so far?

The updated Yezdi Roadster is slated to be launched on August 12. A test mule was spotted recently ahead of its launch. This marks the first major refresh for the bike since its debut in early 2022.

The upcoming Yezdi Roadster appears to feature several design changes, including a new swingarm-mounted rear number plate, a shortened rear fender, and reworked tail-lamp and indicators. The noticeably smaller pillion seat suggests a move toward a more cruiser or bobber-inspired design direction.

While mechanical changes haven’t been confirmed, the bike is expected to retain the 334cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that makes 29hp and 29.4Nm, paired with a six-speed gearbox. However, it’s likely to benefit from similar performance and refinement updates seen on the Jawa 42 FJ and the Yezdi Adventure.

The Yezdi Roadster is scheduled to launch on August 12.

Triumph Thruxton 400:

What do we know so far?

We have a fair bit more information on the Thruxton 400 than the aforementioned updated Yezdi Roadster, thanks to a few clear images that reveal key design details. It will be an all-new model that will be largely based on the Speed 400 and will carry notable design changes to suit its cafe racer format. The biggest change is in the new half fairing which will be colour matched and clip-on bars. A different and sharper fuel-tank  that will be exclusive to the Thruxton 400 with an inset for the Triumph logo. The round, remote brake reservoir is also new, reminiscent of larger European bikes.

Another point of distinction would be its rectangular taillight which looks simpler as compared to the 3D, layered tail light that is on the rest of Triumph’s 400cc lineup. Recently, the Thruxton 400 was spotted testing without camouflage revealing its body-work, design details and a red with silver paint-scheme. Additionally, the bike is expected to come in yellow and black, based on what we know so far.

It will carry the same digi-analogue dash from the Speed 400 with ride-by-wire, traction control, dual-channel ABS and slipper clutch as part of its safety net.

This new model is expected to use the same 398cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine found on the rest of the 400cc Triumph range, producing 40hp and 37.5Nm, mated to a six-speed gearbox.

The chassis and suspension hardware are expected to be carried over from the Speed 400.

The Triumph Thruxton 400 event is slated for August 6, with our first ride review set to go live on August 11.
