Mohit Suri’s Saiyaara has officially entered the record books. Starring debutant As a pandey and fresh face Anet frogthe romantic action drama has netted Rs 304.60 crore at the Indian box office in 19 days, surpassing the lifetime total of Hrithik roshan and Tiger Shroff’s 2019 blockbuster War (Rs 303.34 crore). With this, Saiyaara becomes the 15th highest-grossing Hindi film of all time, a feat no one predicted before its release.
What makes this achievement more remarkable is the cast’s relative inexperience. In an era dominated by franchise films, remakes, and superstar vehicles, Saiyaara stood out with its emotional storytelling, sweeping music, and intense performances. Suri’s brand of soulful cinema clearly found resonance across age groups and became a favourite film of today’s youth. In a press statement issued by YRF, it’s CEO Akshaye Widhani talking about the success of the film said “The success of Saiyaara, a pure love story, once again proves that the romance genre is probably the one to get most love from audience if we give them the right film to cherish and endorse. We are humbled with this success story and it fuels us to look for the next film that can break-out and make India proud globally. It’s deeply encouraging to see young audiences lead the way in embracing this film, disproving doubts about their theatrical participation. Thank you to every viewer, everywhere, for making Saiyaara the defining love story of our time.”The film opened to a thunderous start where it collected Rs 172.75 crore. Despite weekday drops, the second weekend brought renewed energy to earn Rs107.75 crore over the week.Even in its third week, the film remained steady, bringing in Rs 4.5 crore on its third Friday andRs ₹8 crore on its third Sunday. As of Day 19 (Tuesday), the film’s India net stands at Rs 304.60 crore, officially overtaking War directed by Siddharth anand and headlined by Hrithik Roshan, Tiger Shroff and Vaani Kapoor.Despite this remarkable run, experts believe Saiyaara in all liekly hood might just push one more sport at it still has one more weekend with itself before two huge films collided. The 14th spot is held by Bajrangi bhaijaan (Rs 320 crore+). The upcoming Independence Day weekend is expected to bring about a massive screen crunch, with the simultaneous releases of Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR’s high-octane sequel War 2 and Rajinikanth’s mass entertainer Coolie on August 14. Both films are expected to dominate multiplexes and single screens alike, drastically cutting down Saiyaara’s footprint. Moreover, audience attention will be divided, and advance bookings for the new releases have already begun picking up pace and with Saiyaara losing much of it’s screens.
