Roadways flood in St. Louis City as storm moves through region

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) – St. Louis City saw several roadways flood Sunday afternoon as storms moved through the region.

The eastbound lanes of Interstate-70 near St. Louis Avenue were closed for half an hour due to standing water on the road.

The flooding on I-70 began around 3:30 p.m. Missouri Department of Transportation cameras showed St. Louis Firefighters working to clear drains to clear the standing water. The flooding was cleared around 4 p.m.

St. Louis police said they were responding to various areas in the city due to flooded roads. One area police say had standing water was North Tucker and North 13th Street.

“Please avoid driving through flooded streets,” the department said in a post on X, formally Twitter. “It is extremely dangerous. Turn around don’t drown!”

A spokesperson for the Office of Public Safety for St. Louis City said flooding had been reported on 13th Street at Cole and Jefferson Avenue at Madison.
