WARMER THAN NORWAY. WELL, THEN THEY WOULD LOVE THIS AS WELL. TODAY, HOT AND HUMID. IT’S STILL GOING TO CONTINUE THROUGHOUT THE DAY. AND ALSO NOW WE THROW IN THE STORM CHANCES AND ESPECIALLY AS WE TALK ABOUT CENTRAL AND EVEN SOUTHERN IOWA AND NORTHERN IOWA, EVEN YESTERDAY CONFIRMED TORNADO FOR NORTHERN IOWA. BUT AS FAR AS THE REST OF THIS WEEK IS CONCERNED, LOW 90S FOR TODAY. STILL FEELING RIGHT AROUND THAT TRIPLE DIGIT MARK. AND THEN THE DAYS TO COME, WE ARE GOING TO BE DROPPING THOSE TEMPERATURES AND ALSO DROPPING THE HUMIDITY THAT’S ON ITS WAY, JUST NOT GOING TO BE FOR TODAY. AS FAR AS THE REST OF THE AREA GOES WITH THESE SHOWERS AND STORMS, NORTH, NORTH, CENTRAL AND ALSO WESTERN IOWA, THAT’S WHERE THESE LINES OF SHOWERS AND STORMS MOVING IN FROM. AND THEN BEHIND THAT, IT DOES LOOK LIKE WE’RE GOING TO GET SOME ADDITIONAL RAIN TO FOLLOW. BUT AS FAR AS WHERE WE’RE SEEING IT OVER OUR AREA JUST WEST OF I-35, WEST OF JUUL, OVER WEBSTER CITY, NOW EAST OF FORT DODGE, BUT AGAIN, ANOTHER WAVE EXPECTED TO MOVE IN. WE’RE SEEING SOME PRETTY GOOD LIGHTNING FLASHES NUMEROUS FARTHER WEST AND NORTHWEST OVER POCAHONTAS, GOING DOWN TO NOW CALHOUN COUNTIES WHERE WE’RE SEEING THOSE STORMS STARTING TO MOVE IN AND THEN CONTINUING TO SEE THAT ALL THE WAY DOWN JUST WEST OF OTTOMAN EVEN. THAT’S WHERE THAT LINE OF SHOWERS AND STORMS KIND OF MOVING IN. SO THE OVERALL MODEL IS PICKING UP ON THAT, GENERALLY NOT GETTING THE FULL SOUTHERN EXTENT. SO EVEN BY 8:00, I KNOW IT’S PICKING UP ON KIND OF CLEARING AS FAR AS THE RAIN IS CONCERNED OVER THE METRO, BUT I’M EXPECTING AROUND THIS TIME THOSE SHOWERS AND STORMS MOVING IN, IMPACTING OUR MORNING DRIVE SO YOU COULD SEE SOME WET CONDITIONS AS YOU TAKE TO THE STREETS GET TO WORK. BUT GOING INTO THE REST OF THIS MORNING KIND OF BREAKS APART. AND THEN THIS AFTERNOON IT IS GOING TO RETURN SHOWERS AND STORMS RIGHT AROUND THE TIME YOU CLOCK OUT 5 P.M. FOR RUSH HOUR. THOSE SHOWERS AND STORMS COULD BE MAKING THEIR WAY BACK INTO CENTRAL IOWA, BACK INTO THE METRO DOESN’T LAST VERY LONG. NOTICE A PUSH ON SOUTH AND SOUTHEAST AND THEN WE’LL BREAK APART. NOW, AS FAR AS THOSE STORMS, THEY ARE GOING TO CARRY A ONE OUT OF FIVE CHANCE FOR SEVERE WEATHER. IT’S BROAD OVER THE ENTIRE STATE OF IOWA. NOW WHAT WE’RE KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR ISOLATED STRONG WINDS AND HAIL. ALSO HEAVY RAIN WITH THOSE STRONGER THUNDERSTORMS AS WELL. AND YOU CAN’T FORGET ABOUT THE HEAT BECAUSE WE ARE GOING TO BE ESPECIALLY CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN IOWA BACK TO AROUND AND SLIGHTLY ABOVE THAT 100 DEGREE MARK WHEN IT COMES TO THE HEAT INDEX. SO STILL FEELING THAT HUMIDITY, IT’S A LOT LIKE WE HAD YESTERDAY, EXCEPT WE’RE MIXING INTO MORE OF THOSE SCATTERED STORMS FOR US. EIGHT DAY FORECAST SLOWLY DROPPING THE TEMPERATURES, THE HUMIDITY STILL HOLDING ON ON TUESDAY. SO WE’RE NOT CATCHING A BREAK FROM THAT UNTIL DEEPER INTO WEDNESDAY AND ESPECIALLY THURSDAY. AND THEN ALSO FOR THIS WEEKEND DOES LOOK LIKE THERE’S A CHANCE FOR SOME SHOWERS TO RETURN AS ANOTHER COLD FRONT PASSES OVER US ON FRIDAY, BUT THAT’S GOING TO OPEN UP TO JUST A FANTASTIC WEEKEN
It is a muggy start with temperatures and dew points staying in the 70s. Interactive Radar | Weather Alerts | Skycams With these warm and humid conditions, storms are still able to thrive and are expected to persist through the morning for some of us and more this afternoon and even overnight. We will mainly see scattered showers and storms through the next 24 hours, meaning that some but not all of us will see rain today. These storms will be able to intensify for brief periods, especially once we warm up from mid-morning into the evening. We could see some stronger winds and even isolated large hail as these storms pass. These storms are not expected to carry any tornado threat with overall weak low-level shear. Not to be shadowed by the storm chances, the heat will still be very intense. The worst will be for the southern half of the state with heat index values still climbing into the low triple digits today. We will soon see improvement in the muggy meter through the week. We will have a steady drop as the days go on this week, but will really feel it come Wednesday. We could see some isolated showers and storms Friday, but temperatures and humidity will continue to drop into what is looking like a very comfortable weekend ahead.
