Music director Thaman, who has been riding high on delivering mass numbers for star heroes, has once again found himself in the eye of a plagiarism storm. The first single Suvvi Suvvi from Pawan Kalyan’s upcoming film OG, directed by Sujeeth, was released recently and instantly went viral for its catchy tune and melody. However, what started as fanfare soon turned into controversy.
Netizens were quick to allege that Thaman had copied the tune, with several social media users pointing out striking similarities between Suvvi Suvvi and songs from other films. This is not the first time the composer has been accused of lifting tunes—over the years, fans have accused him of borrowing heavily from Hindi songs and even provided video comparisons as proof.
In fact, Thaman was earlier trolled when OG’s first single reminded listeners of a song from the Bollywood film Baby John, leading to the hashtag #RemoveThamanFromRaasaab trending online. Despite such repeated allegations, Thaman has largely remained unfazed and continues to deliver chartbusters.
Now, comparisons have been read between Suvvi and the popular number Undipova Nuvvilaa Rendu Kalla Lopala from the 2020 film Savari, composed by Sekhar Chandra.
Though Savari failed at the box office, the song went on to become a sleeper hit, and many netizens are claiming Thaman’s latest work sounds too close for comfort.
