New Delhi: Maruti Suzuki India on Monday said that it has commenced exports of Suzuki’s first battery electric vehicle (BEV), the and Vitara with over 2,900 units shipped from Pipavav Port in Gujarat to 12 European countries in August.
The shipments have been made to the United Kingdom, Germany, Norway, France, Denmark, Switzerland, Netherlands, Sweden, Hungary, Iceland, Austria, and Belgium, the company said on Monday.
This milestone follows the commencement of production of the e Vitara at Maruti Suzuki’s Gujarat plant on August 26, an event commemorated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who hailed the automaker as a “brand ambassador” of the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative.
The e Vitara is exclusively manufactured at the Hansalpur facility in Gujarat and is built on Suzuki’s all-new HEARTECT-e EV platform.
“The start of export of e Vitara to Europe is indeed a proud and defining moment for us. Built on an all-new EV platform, the e Vitara offers advanced technology, safety, design, and performance for global customers,” said Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd.
The company said the development underscores Suzuki’s plan to establish India as a global production hub for its first electric SUV.
