The VF6 is VinFast’s current entry-level model for the Indian market.
The VinFast VF6 is the latest entrant in the growing electric midsize SUV as one of the Vietnamese EV maker’s debut models for India. Though the VF6 competes with established SUVs like the Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Curvv Ev, Mahindra BE 6and MG ZS EVthe VinFast contender holds quite a lot of advantages. At the same time, the VF6 isn’t without its faults either, so let’s explore whether you should bring one home.

Packed with features
Affordable pricing doesn’t come at the expense of creature comforts.

VinFast understood the assignment of catering to Indian customers’ demands for features, and has loaded the VF6 with virtually every creature comfort you can expect at this price point. Depending on the variant you go with, the VF6 feature list includes a 12.9-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, heads-up display, fixed panoramic glass roof, 8-way powered driver’s seat, 8-speaker sound system, 360-degree camera, cabin air filter, auto-dimming IRVM, ventilated front seats, Level 2 ADAS, dual-zone climate control, rain-sensing wipers, connected car tech, vegan leather upholstery, electronic parking brake with auto hold, and more.
Performance is great
Up to 204hp and 310Nm.
As standard, the VF6 is fitted with a 59.6kWh battery pack that powers a single front-mounted electric motor, which develops 177hp and 250Nm in the base Earth variant and 204hp and 310Nm in the higher-spec Wind variant. We’ve reviewed the VF6 in the latter configuration, and found that it’s a strong performer. Acceleration feels brisk, and the VF6’s claimed 0-100kph time stands at 8.89 seconds.

Drive modes noticeably alter the VF6’s character too, with Eco and Normal feeling quite relaxed and suitable for everyday use, and Sport mode giving rise to some torque steer and judder through the steering wheel under hard acceleration. The four regen modes – Off, Low, Medium and High – don’t feel overly obtrusive either.
Now that we’ve discussed the VF6’s strengths, let’s delve into some of its most glaring drawbacks.
Unintuitive ergonomics
No instrument cluster or heads-up display in VF6 base variant.
The VF6’s interior follows the minimalist theme a bit too strictly, as it folds nearly every in-car function into the central 12.9-inch touchscreen, including the climate control, headlight and mirror adjustment, regen modes, and in the entry-level Earth trim, even the instrumentation. You do get a heads-up display in the VF6 Wind variant, but Earth trim buyers will have absolutely no instrumentation up front.
Touchscreen incorporating most in-car functions can be unsafe.

Integrating everything into the touchscreen means VF6 owners will have to sift through the infotainment system’s menus every time they want to change or adjust something, which requires taking your eye off the road when on the go, and is therefore not very safe.
Interior space falls short of segment standards
Rear seat legroom is just about adequate.

Though the VF6’s 2,730mm wheelbase is on the higher side of its segment, the VinFast SUV isn’t all that spacious at the back. Legroom in the second row can be best described as decent, and the VF6’s 423-litre boot is smaller than those of most rivals too.
Limited dealer and service network
It’ll likely take a few years for VinFast to establish itself pan-India.

Beyond the VF6, buyers should be aware of the nascency of VinFast India itself. Fresh entrants in the market will always have a limited service and retail network for the first few years, which could be a point of contention for a lot of buyers. In this regard, established brands like Mahindra, Hyundai, Tataand MG fare much better.
