Vikramaditya motwane‘s ‘Bhavesh Joshi Superhero’, starring Harsh Varrdhan Kapoor, was an attempt by an Indian filmmaker to venture into vigilante dramas. However, it failed at the box office, and hence, the plans for a sequel were dropped. Eventually, the film received critical acclaim from the audience over the years. Filmmaker and producer of the movie, Anurag kashyaprecently opened up about the film’s box office failure and Motwane’s vision.
Anurag Kashyap Revewals Vikramaditya Motwane Was Passionate About ‘Bhavesh Joshi Superhero’
In an interview with SCREEN, Anurag Kashyap shared that Vikramaditya Motwane is a DC fan and not a Marvel enthusiast. The filmmaker revealed that Motwane had wanted to make the film for a long time, and he had a lot of clarity on what kind of movie it should be. He said, “He’s a big DC fan; he’s not a Marvel fan. So he was very particular about everything.”
From designing the mask to the action, everything Vikramaditya “wanted to do, he did it,” said Kashyap.
Anurag Kashyap blames the star-driven audience for the film’s failure
In the same interaction, Anurag Kashyap shared that sometimes he thinks that the audience would not have lost anything if they had watched ‘Bhavesh Joshi Superhero’ when it was released.Kashyap added, “But audience is very star-driven. And more than them, it’s the market that is very star-driven.”He questioned that when a movie doesn’t reach the audience properly, how would they be able to watch it? He said, “My lifelong pain has been, if I was a regional filmmaker, I would have gotten the equal number of shows and screens, and then my films would have reached more people.”However, Kashyap stated that since he is a Hindi filmmaker, the exhibition and distribution system shows how many shows the film will be allocated. He said, “So that’s not in our hands, and I don’t know whose hands it is.”

In the same interview, when the ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ director was asked why the film didn’t work at the box office, he answered, “I don’t know.” However, he shared that the one thing he knows certainly is that Vikramaditya Motwane is “one of the best filmmakers in the country.”Kashyap shared that a lot of his movies didn’t work at the box office; however, addressing the failure of Vikram by saying, “He is ahead of his time,” is the worst thing to say. He called it an “excuse.” He said that Vikramaditya Motwane’s films stay relevant. He said, “And today, when you look back, we’ve made so many superhero films.
