The revision in GST rates and the manufacturers’ response to it have created an interesting pricing dynamic between two popular roadsters in our market – the Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 and Triumph Speed 400. While the Guerrilla 450 has seen a price hike, Bajaj has absorbed the GST impact for the Speed 400 and even announced a further price cut, creating a significant gap between the two. Here’s how their prices have shifted over the past few weeks.
Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 price after rise in GST
Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 price has increased by over Rs 18,000
The Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 has become more expensive following the GST revision. The base variant now costs Rs 2.56 lakh, up from Rs 2.39 lakh, an increase of Rs 17,000. The top-end colourways, which were earlier priced at Rs 2.54 lakh, have risen by nearly Rs 18,500 to Rs 2.72 lakh.
The Guerrilla 450 is powered by a 452cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that makes 40hp and 40Nm. It rides on a telescopic fork at the front and a rear monoshock, with 17-inch alloys at both ends. Equipment highlights include dual-channel ABS, a slip-and-assist clutch and either an analogue or a digital instrument cluster with Royal Enfield’s Tripper navigation system, depending on the variant.
Triumph Speed 400 price after rise in GST
Triumph Speed 400 price has reduced by nearly Rs 17,000
Triumph had initially announced that it would maintain pricing across its 400cc models despite the GST revision, with the Speed 400 holding steady at Rs 2.51 lakh. However, with the festive season right around the corner, Triumph went a step further and dropped prices by Rs 16,797bringing the Speed 400 down to Rs 2.34 lakh.
The Speed 400 is powered by a 398cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine producing 40hp and 37.5Nm – almost identical on paper to the Guerrilla 450. That said, at 179kg, it is 5kg lighter than the Guerrilla. Suspension duties are handled by a USD fork up front and a monoshock at the rear. Features include dual-channel ABS, switchable traction control and a digi-analogue instrument cluster that’s simpler than the one on the higher-spec Guerrilla variants.
Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 vs Triumph Speed 400 price difference
For now, the Triumph Speed 400, at Rs 2.34 lakh, undercuts the base Guerrilla 450 by Rs 22,000. That difference widens to Rs 38,000 when comparing it with the top-spec Guerrilla. For perspective, before the GST revision and festive discounts, the price gap between the two bikes was as little as Rs 5,000.
Triumph hasn’t confirmed how long the discounted prices will last or until when it plans to continue absorbing the additional GST-related costs. If it does revise prices in the future, the disparity will narrow, but for now, the Speed 400 is the more value-focused proposition on paper.
All prices are ex-showroom.
