Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna continue to charm audiences with their witty banter, this time on Twinkle’s talk show Two Much With Kajol And Twinkle. During the episode featuring Saif Ali Khan and the two hosts, Twinkle opened up about her first meeting with Akshaygiving fans a peek into their early days.
Twinkle did it for Rajesh Khanna
“I actually met him because of my dad (Rajesh Khanna),” Twinkle said. “My dad had an old producer friend who insisted, ‘You have to work in this movie because I’ve given my word.’ I didn’t want to work with him at that point, but I did.” Twinkle added that she had been snobby, especially since Akshay was going through a rough patch in his career with back-to-back flops. Saif cheekily chimed in, “You’ve always given some flops and then super hits, so who cares?”
Twinkle’s meticulous approach to marriage
Akshay then revealed a surprising side of Twinkle, sharing how thoroughly she vetted him before marriage. “Aadmi jab shaadi karta hai toh do kundliyaan milata hai. She didn’t believe in that. You know what she did? She checked if my father had any kind of disease — she removed all the genetic and DNA background till my mamas, chachas, and chachis. And then, and only then, she decided that okay, I can marry him.”
Fire and water: what keeps them together
On their contrasting personalities, Akshay said, “She is fire. I am water. She says whatever she wants to. I just keep myself calm and quiet. Just listen and try to understand what she’s trying to say. Do whatever you want, but listen. I think every husband should be a good listener.” Akshay and Twinkle tied the knot on January 17, 2001, and are parents to son Aarav Bhatia (2002) and daughter Nitara Bhatia (2012).
