The Indian market has witnessed a steep increase in the popularity of SUVs in the past few years. The ever-growing demand for SUVs has resulted in manufacturers introducing more and more competitive products in a bid to grasp a higher market share. The mid-size SUV space is currently one of the most crowded segments in India, leaving the buyer spoilt for choice. Here’s a list of most powerful SUVs in India under Rs 25 lakh.
Hyundai Creta 1.5 turbo-petrol
The Hyundai Creta’s sole turbo-petrol variant is priced at Rs 20 lakh onwards, with dual tone version priced at an additional Rs 15,000. The SUV’s 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine puts out 160hp and 253Nm torque, and is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch auto as standard. This engine can also be had with a 6-speed manual gearbox on the Creta N Line, which is essentially the sportier version of mid-size SUV. The Creta N Line is priced between Rs 16.82 lakh-20.45 lakh.
Kia Seltos 1.5 turbo petrol
Creta’s cousin Car & Motorbike to buy Kia Seltos makes use of the same 160hp, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine on the higher trims. On the Seltos, this engine is mated to a 6-speed iMT (clutchless manual) and an optional 7-speed DCT. Pricing for the Kia Seltos turbo-petrol starts from Rs 15.45 lakh, going up to Rs 20.35 lakh for the range-topping X-Line variant.
Jeep Compass 2.0 diesel

Jeep offers the Compass in India with a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine that produces 170hp and 350Nm torque. The engine is paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox, along with an optional 9-speed torque converter automatic. The Compass also offers a choice between 4×2 and 4×4 drivetrains. Pricing for the SUV starts from Rs 20.69 lakh and goes up to Rs 32.41 lakh.
MG Hector 2.0 diesel
The MG Hector borrows Jeep Compass’ 2.0-litre diesel engine in the same 170hp state of tune. However, MG only offers the engine with a 6-speed manual transmission, with prices ranging between Rs 17.70 lakh-21.90 lakh. This engine is also offered with the three-row Hector Plus which is priced from Rs 17 lakh to Rs 22.30 lakh.
Tata Safari 2.0 diesel
The Tata Safari also gets the same FCA-sourced 2.0-litre diesel engine as the Hector, making 170hp and 350Nm. Transmission options include a 6-speed MT and an optional 6-speed torque converter automatic. The Tata Safari is priced from Rs 16.19 lakh-27.34 lakh.
Tata Harrier 2.0 diesel

Mahindra Scorpio N 2.2 diesel
The Mahindra Scorpio N’s 2.2-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine generates 175hp and 400Nm in its higher state of tune, and is available from the Z4 variant onwards, priced at Rs 17.55 lakh. The Scorpio N diesel can be had with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic, with an optional 4WD configuration.
MG ZS EV

The MG ZS EV’s single electric motor setup produces 177hp and 280Nm peak torque. The motor is powered by a 50.3kWh battery pack providing a range of up to 461km on a single full charge. Pricing ranges between Rs 18.98 lakh and Rs 25.20 lakh.
Mahindra XUV700 2.2 diesel
The Mahindra XUV700 gets a 2.2-litre diesel engine that generates 185hp and 450Nm on the higher variants. The engine is mated to a 6-speed MT and an optional 6-speed AT with a choice between front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. Pricing for the XUV700 diesel (185hp) starts from Rs 16.99 lakh, going up to Rs 26.99 lakh.
Mahindra XUV700 2.0 turbo-petrol
XUV700’s 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine produces 200hp and 380Nm, which makes it the second most powerful SUV in India under Rs 25 lakh. Pricing ranges from Rs 13.99 lakh-25.54 lakh. The XUV700 petrol is available with a front-wheel drive configuration as standard. Mahindra recently introduced a new mid-level AX5 Select trim for the XUV700 which gets a panoramic sunroof and a seven-seat layout.
Mahindra Scorpio N 2.0 turbo-petrol
The Mahindra Scorpio N’s 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine is the same as the XUV700, however, produces extra 3hp. With an output of 203hp, the Scorpio N turbo-petrol is the most powerful SUV in the country under Rs 25 lakh. Just like the diesel, it is available with 6-speed MT and 6-speed AT gearbox options, however, with RWD only. Pricing starts from Rs 13.85 lakh and goes up to Rs 21.98 lakh.
